My Skills & Experience

Personal Statement

I am looking to secure a position within your school district where I can put my professional knowledge to good use, while simultaneously developing my skills in an educational environment. With practical experience to back me up, as well as an extensive skill set, I’ve got the flexibility and necessary experience to get things done right.

About Edgar Green

WHO I AM

I obtained my teaching credential this year as well as a Masters of Art in Learning and Teaching from the University of Redlands.  I recently completed my time as a Student Teacher at a local high school. Before student teaching I was employed as a substitute teacher at the Colton Joint Unified School District and Val Verde Unified School District.

I am currently employed as a substitute teacher in the Moreno Valley Unified School District.

I Graduated from Brigham Young University-Idaho in December 2013. I majored in English Literary Studies and minored in Political Science.

Work Experience

My experience in my field has brought me far, and though I hope to keep growing and developing, I know that I have what it takes to make a real contribution to any school site I join.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER, MORENO VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

DECEMBER 2017 - CURRENT

I worked as an on-call substitute teacher. My duties were somewhat basic, but I was given the responsibility of running and maintaining the classroom while their instructor was out. I followed whatever lesson plan that the instructor left for me during their absence.

STUDENT TEACHER, VALLEY VIEW HIGH SCHOOL

SEPTEMBER 2017 - DECEMBER 2017

Worked under the tutelage of my master teacher. Learned all about the ins-and-outs of managing a classroom as well as being prepared. Along with the in-class experience I was also taught the importance of keeping records and accountability.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER, VAL VERDE SCHOOL DISTRICT

DECEMBER 2016 - SEPTEMBER 2017

I worked as an on-call substitute teacher. My duties were somewhat basic, but I was given the responsibility of running and maintaining the classroom while their instructor was out. I followed whatever lesson plan that the instructor left for me during their absence.

MY CAREER

California Standards for the Teaching Profession 1-3

CSTP 1 ENGAGING AND SUPPORTING ALL STUDENTS IN LEARNING

I show this standard in several ways. I will be focusing on classroom arrangement. The classroom was first arranged in a way that made it almost impossible for students on the left hand side of the classroom to hear because of the A/C unit. With permission, I moved the Chrome cart to the side that has the A/C unit and then moving the students to the right.

Another way I exemplified this is by using my Spanish language capability. I used Spanish when explaining key terms to my ELL students.

CSTP 2 CREATING AND MAINTAINING EFFECTIVE ENVIRONMENTS FOR STUDENT LEARNING

An example that illustrates my capability with the second standard is shown in the fishbowl seminar I held as an assessment as well as reading the articles to them.

CSTP 3 UNDERSTANDING AND ORGANIZING SUBJECT MATTER FOR STUDENT LEARNING

I created a worksheet for students to fill-in during Film Studies. Before that, they did not have a worksheet to fill in, but only their memory of what might be important. I also had students incorporate PEELS for any writing my students had to do while under my tutelage.

MY CAREER

California Standards for the Teaching Profession 4-6

CSTP 4 PLANNING INSTRUCTION AND DESIGNING LEARNING EXPERIENCES FOR ALL STUDENTS

I exemplified this by implementing the fishbowl seminar and the worksheets for Film Studies

CSTP 5 ASSESSING STUDENT LEARNING

I incorporated a test on Google Forms which included gifs and static pictures to help students recall the scene. I also assessed my students by their capability and growth of understanding the English language.

CSTP 6 DEVELOPING AS A PROFESSIONAL EDUCATOR

Through my influence, students have began to turn their homework on time and I have recorded less absences.
